EXPORT OF PIGS
ON CONSIGNMENT WITH ADVANCES. LEVIN DAIRY COMPANY'S SCHEME. At a meeting of directors of the Levin Co-operative Dairy Company yesterday, the export of bacon pigs wa> discussed. As is "well-known,, the pigi.ais'ng industry at the present time is in a ve:T precarious position and with a view to helping, district- farmers, the dhectors dec (led to give their shareholders the privilege of exporting bacon pigs on consignment through the Dairy Company, which will make an advance'of 2d'per lb against the pig* and endeavour to sell to the best advantage in the Home' market. Notice of trucking dates will be advertised in a future issue. It is quite obvious, from the figures relating to the production of bacon pigs in New Zealand, that there will have to be a considerable export or the Dominion market will be glutted. ,A committee of farmers' representativeis endeavouring to obtain a subsidy from the Government against any losunder a stated price to the producer and the matter is expected to be decided in the near future. But subsidj or not' it is absolutely essential thai pigs should be exported "to get no of'the' surplus that will come forward The requirement for this purpose it pi»s weighing between 120 and 1.0 lbs
