SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING. The above meeting was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs It. L Tippler (chairman), A. Blackwood, G. Booker, E, Butt A. Coates, J. V. Burns (secretary) and A T, White (headmaster). CORRESPONDENCE. Advice was received of the appointment of Miss A. G. Allan, of the District High School, at Te Kuiti, to the vacancy as assistant caused by the resignation of Miss Eraser. An application for the right to cut hay in the school section was granted toil, Coakley. The secretary of the Board wrote stating that the Board have granted a subsidy of £2 12s towards the cost of the formation of cricket pitch and £5 towards the construction of seats round the school building. The money is to be used solely for these purposes, the work to be carried out in a .workmanlike manner.
TAR SEALING PLAY AREA
A sub-committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Blackwood and Coates were appointed to attend to the work of tar-sealing the whole, of the plaving area during the holidays. Application is to be made to the Borough Council for the use of their t.ar-spray-
REPORT ON SCHOOL. : f The Inspectors reported that the organisation of the school was approved. The school is well managed, order, discipline and tone being good. A regular attendance is now maintained and a very satisfactory standard of efficiencv is reached. An approved course of study find training is provided for the probationer, who has done well in examinations. The buildings, grounds and fences are in very fair order. The Committee and the Headmaster have co-operated well in improving and beautifying the grounds. The- rooms were neat and clean and the ventilation receives saisfactory attention.HEADMASTER'S REPORT.
The headmaster' (Mr.. A. T. White) reported that the average weekly attendance since his last report was 328, 331, 330, 327 and' 311, the roll number being 365. He stated he was anxious about the attendance for the quarter owing to the serious drop during the past week. That day there luyd been 71 absent. A lot had been absent owing to sickness, while quite a number stayed away if there were a few drops of rain. This was not right in the case of senior pupils. He reported' that the Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) had kindly offered to donate the Dux medals for this year. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Butt for his generous offer. Owing to the holidays the next committee meeting will be held on January 11th.
