KAWIU ROAD FLOOD WATER.
A CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED. A letter was received by the llorowhenua County Council on Saturday from the Levin Borough Council acknowledging receipt of the County Council's letter ot October \lth, asking that the proposed action of the Borough in connection with Kawiu Road floodwaier be held over for one month' to give Messrs Suhan and Mackenzie a further opportunity of replying to com- - municafions which had been forwarded to them. The Borough Council had agreed tolthe County Council's suggestion, but considered that if a» conference .was called between the Borough and County Councils and all tne- property owners concerned in the . larger sclumo of drainage from Kawiu Road to York Street, an agreement might be reached and the matter thereby expedited. Mr M. J. Suhan wrote in answer to the Counly Council's letter to him on . the above subject and stated that he was prepared to guarantee £SO towards the cost of having a drain put in that
would remove for all time any water that was likely to accumulate on liis property..' Mr D. S. Mackenzie wrote" acknowledging n:cc?pt of a copy of the letter forwarded to Mr Suhan. -He. stated that the expense involved, in drainage as proposed was somewhat in excess of wh.it he had anticipated, and in consequence he had abandoned lhe idea. He thcfnKed the Council for having gone so fully into the question, and trusted that he might be able to deal w;ith the nuisance in some other manner. *
The chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) said he thought the Council had better accept the Borough Council's suggestion, and that the councillors for the nding and the County Engineer should report to the Council on the proposed conference. He moved in this" .'direc-
tion. , . The motion was seconded by Cr. Ryder and carried.
