TINY SHOES
The toes and sides of the heels of baby’s shoes are very soqn worn right through, although the sole and the rest of the shoe are still perfectly good. If the little shoes are polished with a white shoe cream they will last much longer, as the wax in the polish forms a film which has to wear away first. If the shoes are already worn, try first painting them over with white of egg. This will give the leather a new , surface, which can afterwards be/ polished in the usual way. This white of'egg treatment is. particularly useful for red : shoes, which so very soon show signs of wear. For even younger children who are still quite in the crawling stage, dear little soft shoes may be made out of the good parts of worn-out gloves. Gut out a sole to fit the little foot, and an upper. Cut also a lining of some soft material. Machine the upper band • lining together round on the reverse side, also machine the straps,! turn, and then oversew the upper to the sole, using small stitches.
These soft kid or doeskin shoes cannot hurt the tiniest. little feet, and are so easily made that there will be no excuse to keep the baby in shoes that are already on the small side for him.
