CHILDREN'S CONCERT.

A DELIGHTFUL PERFORMANCE Despite the fact that a gale raged last evening, the Parish Hall was packed for the concert given by the children of Ven. Bede's Sunday School to raise funds for the church. Those who ventured out were rewarded with a splendid 'entertainment, the children presenting a most creditable performance, which must have been very gratifying to those ladies and gentlemen who for weeks past have been preparing them. A stage had been erected and was beautifully decorated with evergreen, and ferns, representing a fairy glade and with the multi coloured froeks of the children made a pleasing display. Special lighting effects were in charge of Mr Sunley. The duties of chairman were in the-capable hands of Mr J. T. Bovis, who never permitted a dull moment to enter into the programme, which went off without a hitch of any kind. The outstanding features of a delightful concert were the Fairy opera entitled, "Fairies at Play," in which Miss Joyce Bass took the leading role of Fairy Queen, being ably supported by a dozen junior girls and a similar number of senior girls; and a fitting finale in the Maori playlet, '.'The Pakeha Maid," the music and words of which was arranged by Mr Bass, assisted by Mrs CliffordJones and stage managed by Mrs Fariiell. Both pieces were much enjoyed by the audience, the singing and dancing being excellent, particularly the dancing by the Misses M. Lister and C. Tippler in the fairy opera. The remaining items were quite in keeping with the main features, each little performer doing his or her item well. The programme was as follows: — , Overture, Miss Neale's Orchestra"; song, Joan Bovis; violin solo, B. Bresnehan; monologue, Joyce Merwood; song, May Exton; pianoforte solo, Joyce Blackwood and Nancy Burgis - ; Fairy Opera; pianoforte solo, Ethel Jamieson; dialogue, senior girls; dance, Phyllis Paton; song, Dolly Exton.; recitation, Joan Bovis; cello solo, Nance Balfour; Maori Playlet. Prior to the concluding item Mr A. T. White, on behalf of the Vestry, returned thanks to the organisers of the concert, Mesdames Farnell, Bell, and Clifford Jones, and Mr Bass, to the performers, also to Mesdames ' Satherley, Cronquest and Bovis for donations of sweets and to the public for their support.
