A WRESTLER PENALISED.
EXCITED SPEECH TO CROWD. There was another remarkable scene at the conclusion of a wrestling match at the Melbourne Stadium on September 3rd. For bumping his knee low to his opponent's body, "Billy" Edwards (Canada) was penalised by the referee (Mr. A.lf. Bridges) by the award of a fall in default to Mike Yokel (United, States) in the sixth, round of a spectacular match. With the score previously one fall each, this gave the match to Yokel by two falls to one. What followed was one of the most dramatic and remarkable outbursts ever witnessed in the ring. Edwards flung off his dressing gown and, wildlygesticulating, indicated that he wanted to speak to the crowd. Then, as the uproar continued, Edwards shouted that he had been promised a chance of winning the world's light heavy-weight title from Ted Thye if he beat Yokel, and that he had done his best to win that night. "I demand that Yokel return and. finish the contest," he shouted. Then tlhe lights went lout, pndi storming about the ring, repeated his challenge to the other side of the packed stadium. When he finally' was induced to leave .the ring, Edwards, by ; his earnestness and emotion, had changed the fickle mood of the crowd/ i for he was roundly cheered. I When Edwards was disqualified inhis match against Thye he was- fined £IOO for charity by the management,';.
