MANGAHAO NOTES.
Mangahao is a good example of..a self-contained township, its isolation making for this and also developing a spirit of mutual helpfulness that is highly commendable. The latest development of the former is the formation of a splendid little orchestra which assists at dances and social functions. Its members are. Miss L. Robinson (piano), Mr. Boyes (banjo guitar), Mr. Uremii (swanee whistle), and Mr. Puti (guitar)."
On Saturday last a benefit social was hold to assist a young married couple who had had nothing but bad luck since they started. The function was run by the committee of the Labour Union. The first part consisted of euchre, the prizes being won by Mrs Williams and Mrs Haggart (consolation), Mr Jordan, Mr Withers (consolation), and Mr Whiteford. Mr Howard Andrew rendered a monologue. Mr. Caldwell, secretary of the Union gave out the prizes and thanked the donors. An excellent supper was provided and dancing followed the items.
