MANAWATU JERSEY SHOW & SALE.
HIGH PRICES FOR YEARLING HEIFERS. The fifth annual Manawatu bull and heifer sale was held in Palmerston X. on Thursday. Both the attendance and the entry were records. Nearly 100 head of pedigree stock came from the Horowhenua district, and realised satisfactory prices. Great interest was evinced"in the judging, Mr A. C. Lovelock, one of the younger school of judges, making the awards. In the two-year-old bull class, the estate of the late S. R. Lancaster, scored a popular win with Dainty Nap, a lengthy dairy type of bull with plenty of style. He is a son of the champion bull, Nap, from Dainty Victress. Yearling bulls provided a" class fully equal to the standard of the leading shows of the. Dominion. Mr R. L. Horn, however, scored a clear-cut victory with the splendid young bull, Kuku Boss Owl, by his great breeding sire, Owler of Puke-l-apu, one of the Dominion's champion butterfat bulls. This bull, whose dam had a C.O.M.'record of 541 lbs. _fat, made the top price of his class, Sogns. In yearlings, Mr Horn had an unique victory as out of 48 yearlings, five of his bulls were placed in the first seven. The second prize bull, Kuku Royal Game, by Kuku Owler from Kuku Silver Hope, 6501 b. fat, realised 50gus., Mrs M. Gadsby, Stratford, being the purchaser. Probably the third prizewinner, Kuku Fame, by Kuku Owler from Kuku Glory, C.0.M., (1331 b. fat at 2 years, was the bargain of the day. He was secured by Professor Riddet for the Massey Agricultural College, at 40 guineas. Yearling heifers was another strong class,' thirty-eight parading. Mr. Horn was again to the fore, five of his entries getting into the first seven placed. Tin- place or honour was, however, awarded to a heifer of beautiful style and conformation in Mrs I. W. Spoil's' Ratavale Dumpy, by Kuku Napper from La Padua, 523.151 b. fat at 4 years. Mr. Alan Horn secured her for a bid of 62 guineas. Mr. R. L. Horn's second prize heifer, Kuku Golden Gay, realised 45 guineas, and his third prize heifer, Kuku Beauty, realised 100 guineas. This was a great type of heifer and was fancied as a likely heifer to win her class. Her breeding is exceptional as she is" out of the great prizewinning heifer, Kuku Duchess, by the i Royal Show winner, Kuku Owler. Another choice heifer offered on 'account of Mr. R.'L. Horn was Kuku Elf, sired by Owler of Puketapu and from the great breeding cow, Kuku Snowflake. This heifer was also secured by Mr. J. Johnson at 100 guineas. Results of Judging.
