MANGAORE TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Mangaore Tennis Glub was held on Tuesday evening, ‘the-27th ultimo, Mr A. R. Blackwood presiding over an attendance of some thirty members. The annual report disclosed that the Club experienced a very busy season, and while not successful in friendly 'matches, put up a creditable performance„for so young a club. The social side - * was not neglected, and visitors from other clubs-were'made very welcome. A number of informal visits •were made to, and received from clubs within the district, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. Two socials were held to mark in a measure the opening day and w-ind-up of the season, and both evenings were complete successes. The membership of the Club was a record one (gentlemen 26, ladies 17). The committee at times experienced difficulty in( arranging sets, but came through its efforts untiringly. Friendly matches engaged in by the Club w-ere with Shannon, Miranui and Mangaliao. \ For the first time in the history of the Club a ladder was constituted. The innovation was a huge success and keen competition resulted. Mr W. B. King and Miss A. Gagliardi were at the head of tlieir respective ladders at the end of the season. Trophies donated for competition were annexed by the following President ’s Trophy.—Mr J. S. Burgis (men’s championship). Grylls ’ Trophy.—Miss A. Gagliardi (ladies ’ championship). King’s Trophy.—Mr and Mrs Ostler (doubles tourney). Andrews ’ Trophy. —Mrs Gregory (singles tourney). Murray’s Trophy. —Mrs Gregory (most improved player). Greensmith’s Trophy. —Mr A. J. Breen (2nd improved player). Tlie balance sheet showed that the receipts were £2B 4s Id, and the payments £l2 15s 9d, leaving a credit balance at the P.O. Savings Bank, of £ls 8s 4d.

The report, and balance sheet were adopted. The Committee wishes to offer its thanks and appreciation to the donors of trophies to the Club for competition, those ladies and gentlemen who assisted in bringing the season to the successful close that it attained. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: — President.—Mr A. R. Blackwood (reelected)* Vice-presidents.—Messrs T. A. John, ston and I. R. Robinson (re-elected). Club ibaptain.—Mr J. S. Burgis. Hon. Secretary and Treasurer.—Mr K. S. Henry (re-elected). Management Committee.—The presir dent, efub captain, secretary, Messrs E. E.- James, 11. Symons. ' The formation of a Ladies ’ Committee was left'in their oayh. hands. : Fifteen uiew members were elected. The ojiening day Avas left to the Committee |o decide at an-early date.
