fortnightly meeting. The above meeting was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening: Present: The Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) and Crs Thwaites, W. H. Gunning, R. Downes, Jas Curran jun., Jas Curran sen., and A. E. Hyde. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr H. Murdoch acknowledging a letter from the Council stating that the foreman had been instructed to clean the drain at the outlet from his property, but no mention was made in regard to taking out the timber or deepening the drain. He asked for a definite answer on this matter Received. n (< 'An application from Mr. o. v. Franks for a permit to make temporary wood and iron additions to his garage, was referred to the Building Committee. The Borough Ranger reported that during the past fortnight he had found only one horse wandering which he had returned to its owner. ROADMAN’S REPORT. The roadman (F. Haley) reported on the month’s work as follows: —Have carted yards of metal, of which 1644 yards was taken to the Cemetery road, 20 yards to the dump in Sheehan Street and the remainder to the Main Noith road, Ballance and Stafford Streets. Have metalled right of way to the back of George’s cycle shop. Had the grader over the Main road and have carted a further 36 yards of clay for filling in kerbing in Plimmer lerrace and Stout Street. The posts for marking tlie ivre plugs have been m. The ploughing in Stout Street has bepn disced, but did not have time to complete this work, being called upon to metal the road. The drain on the Foxton road has been cleaned :o Gardner’s boundary. The water mains have been scoured and thq_ pipeline inspected. He found that the galleries at the top end are beginning co give trouble by getting blocked with metal. Have collected the rubbish which was carted to the dump.— In reference to the trouble with the galleries it was decided that the Waterworks Committee inspect with a view to ascertaing what can be done to remedy it. GENERAL.
It was decided to have tho piece of road in front of Mr. Birchall’s residence at Newtown, put in order and metalled during the summer.
