GAOL FOR THEFT.
YOUNG MAN WITH PREVIOUS CONVICTION. William Spence, 19 years of age, a labourer, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday morning. on a charge of stealing at Miranui, on August 12th and 24th respectively, a gold ring valued at £3, the property of John Frederick Carl Prentice, and the sum yf £1 19s in money, the property of. William John Frizzell. Accused pleaded guilty ‘to both charges. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady stated that accused, some time prior to the thefts, had worked at Miranui. On August 12th he had returned there and stolen the ring, while on the latter date lie had made another visit and taken £1 19s from a pair of trousers. He had previously been convicted for theft. On the first charge the magistrate sentenced accused to three months’ imprisonment and on the latter to one month, the terms to be concurrent.
