MANGAHAO DAM
NEARING COMPLETION. POSITION OF WORKERS. Now that the Mangahao works, which will add another dam to supply power for the generation of electricity for light and power in the Wellington provincial district, are nearing completion-, the workmen engaged there are anxious to know what their position will be in regard to further employment. Mr P. Fraser (Wellington Central) asked a question bearing on the subject in the House of Representatives yesterday. He. referred to the probability of the dismissal of a hundred men who would be thrown into the ranks of the unemployed. The Minister of Works (Hon. K. S Williams) said he had not heard that there was any likelihood of that, but he would make inquiries as to what was the position. If the men had to go away from Mangahao, every effort, he could assure the House, would be made to keep them employed on other works, so that they would suffer no hardship, and so that there would bo no addition to the ranks of the unemployed. „_«__
