SHANNON AMATEUR ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above Club was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance of members, the president (Mr. J. T. Bovis) presiding. An apology for absence, which was unavoidable, was received from Mr. A. T. White, the vice-president. PRESIDENT'S REPORT.

The President (Mr. J. T. Bovis) in presenting the report for the past year said he did so with great pleasure as the year's working records one of the most successful since the inception of the Club—viz., March, 1923. The balance sheet shows a credit balance of £144 12s lOd, and when one takes into account the short period of the Club's existence, the loss on some of our functoris amongst which is our last sports gathering, a deficit of £lB 5s 9d, and not forgetting the considerable sum spent on improving the Domain, the credit balance proves that the working of the Committee and members must have indeed been untiring and harmonious to have attained such.a wonderful result. Although the March Sports shows a deficit of £lB 5s 9d, yet the Club can congratulate themselves on giving athletics a decided boost in this district. At the Labour Day Sports the Club was honoured with a visit from Messrs McVilly (president N.Z.A.A. Association) Traeey and Sullivan, of the Wellington Centre, accompanied by Mr. Sutherland,' the last gentleman giving an exhibition of various field events. Their visit was much appreciated, and useful information on the running of Athletic Sports was imparted to the local members. The thanks of the Club are due to all the ladies and others who helped to make the recent carnival such a success either by work or donations, the nett profit from . which 'is £l2l 13s 9d. The Club should now consider the finishing of the formation of the cycling track, ready for asphalting, and I am confidently of the opinion that when this work is finished Shannon will'have one of the finest athletic grounds in the district. To the officers of the club, the' secretary, Mr T. Kohika, treasurer Mr. B. J. Brann, auditor Mr. J. V. Burns and the Press, the thanks are due for services gratuitously given. Finally, I thank all members for their support and trust that by working together for the good of the club and athletics generally, the high position now attained will still further be added to.

The balance sheet and President's re port was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICEES.

Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. Jas. Curran jun; president, Mr. A. T. White; vice president, Mr. B. J. Brann; lion secretary, Mr. T. Kohika (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr. J. T. Bovis; treasurer, Mr. J. V. Burns; auditor, Mr. H. V. Hudson; committee, Messrs D. McLaggan, T. King, W. Radford, R. Downes, F. King, R, Sands, L. Satherley, W. Olsen, C. Stern, A. Reid, J. Conchie, T. Watson, K. S. Henry, J. Bresnehan, A. Coates, W. Christian. GENERAL. Eulogistic references were made to the valuable services rendered by Mr. T. Kohika, the Club's honorary secretary, the retiring president, (Mr. J. T. Bovis) stating that no one knew better than he the large amount of work that had fallen to Mr. Kohika, which he had at all times carried out efficiently, thus proving himself a valuable official. He moved that Mr. Kohika be asked to accept a gift to the value of £o as a token of esteem and recognition of his services to the Club. Mr. L. Satherley seconded the motion, which was carried. It was decided to hold a meeting in a month's time to arrange for a worknig bee to complete the work of widening the cycle track at the Domain. In moving that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Mr. Bovis, the retiring president, Mr. Brann stated that he had held this position since the Club's inception and had proved a tower of strength, being largely responsible for the Club's sound position today. The motion was carried by acclamation.

Mr. Bovis in returning thanks, said he was pleased to know, on going out of office, that the Club had such a good credit balance. For this the Club had to thank the ladies and others, who had rendered assistance on different occasions. He said he had always received the ' hearty co-operation oi members and his term of office had been a pleasant one. He trusted that the incoming officials would receive the same help and courtesy that had been extended to him. (Applause).
