POLICE COURT.
MOTORIST CHARGED. Before Messrs W. F. Dunvard and D. L. Lovelock, J.’sP., at the regular siting of the Police Court at Palmerston North yesterday, a plea of not guilty was entered by Frank Mortimer Cordery in respect of a charge of negligent driving of a motor car on the Shannon-Tokomaru Road on July 16. De. fendant pleaded guilty to a further charge of not having had at the time a driver’s license.
For the police evidence was given that defendant had driven through the main street of Tokomaru at a speed of 25 miles per hour, meeting a number of cows and striking one. Defendant, on oath, denied excessive speed and maintained that, as it was dark at the time, the cows should not have been on the street. On striking one of the beasts, lie pulled up immediately. He had been motoring since 1908, and this was the first time that lie had met trouble. He admitted that he had not renewed his driver’s license. The court dismissed the - first information and imposed a fine of £l, with costs 10s, on the second. LICENSING CASE.
For a second breach of his prohibition order, C. 11. Boyle, of Shannon, Avas fined £2 with 10s costs.
