PRESENTATION TO MANAWHENUA SKIPPER.
Jacob, captain of the Manawhenua team, was honoured by the birth of a son on the Monday following the match against the Maori representatives. To mark the event and show their esteem, his fellow members of the Wanderers' Club subscribed to purchase a suitable and useful souvenir, and last evening they visited Mr Jacob's home at Hokio and presented the infant with a very handsome perambulator. A happy time was spent by a gathering numbering about 40, appropriate toasts being honoured, songs and recitations contributed and speeches made. The presentation was undertaken by Mr W. Wilkinson, treasurer of the club, and Mr Jacob responded in a vein of deep appreciation. FOXTON v. MIRANUI. The above teams met on the Miranui ground last Saturday to play for a place in the knock-out competition. The i ground was in good order, and as no wind favoured either side a splendid game of Rugby was witnessed by a good crowd of spectators, and resulted in a win for Foxton by 8 to 3; the Foxton score being a try converted, and a penalty goal to a try by Miranui. Both teams played capital football, Foxton being the better team. Tljeir combination and footwork were much superior to anything seen here in junior grade this season. A feature of the game was the excellent way both teams by good kicking found the line. The game was very fast and exciting and Foxton 's win was very popular and was well deserved.
Mr Coyle had control of the game, his ruling being well received by both teams.
