FEED AND BUTTER-FAT
Dealing with the subject of the influence of food upon the amount of butter-fat in milk. Mr. James Mackintosh, of the National Institute for Research in dairying in an official publication of the English Jersey Cattle Society, says:—ln the practical management of dairy herds it still appears safe to state that when cattle are receiving a well-balanced and adequate ration, changes in the feeding will induce only a temporary effect, if any, on t.h e fat percentage. In the case of individual cows, however, the feeding and management can be so adjusted as to get somewhat abnormal results for a few days and so short period tests may gi ye quite an unfair impression as to a cow's merit.
