PROFESSOR LEAPS TO DEATH FROM BURNING PLANE.
KILLED ON WAY TO PERFORM OPERATION. PARIS, June 3. Professor Pieque, a well-known surgeon of the Military Hospital, Talence, near Bordeaux, was killed yesterday in an extraordinary aeroplane accident. At the time he was hurrying to hospital to perform an operation on the wife of an aviation officer of the Cazans Camp. The professor, after visiting the patient, decided that an operation was neeessaiy at once. He had the patient placed in an ambulance aeroplane, and he was following in another, with a third aeroplane accompanying them. On the way the pilot of the third ’plane noticed that the machine carrying Professor Pieque was on fire. He communicated with the pilot of the burning machine, who at once began to descend. 0
Meanwhile Professor Pieque, who had noticed the, flames and was in all probability affected by the fumes, jumped out when the aeroplane was about 300 feet up. He was picked up dead. The pilot was able to bring the burning machine to the ground, and escaped with a few T slight burns.
