MANAWHENUA RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY EVENING’S MEETING.
The Manawlienua Rugby Union met on Saturday evening, there being present Messrs A. M. Ongley (in the chair). H. Crawford, J. Hardie, J. A. Colquhoun, K. W. Eglinton, J. Ryan, T. Collins (Manawatu), S. Austin, F. Robinson, W. N. Anderson and M. Winiata (Horowlienua).
General Business. The Poverty Bay Union wrote stating that the Manawhenua Union owed Poverty Bay a visit, and expressed the hope that the Manawhenua Union could see its way clear to make the viiit. August 1 was suggested as the date.—Resolved that owing to the number of fixtures already arranged for this season, it was regretted the Manawhenua team could not be sent to Gisborne.
“You can kill inter-provincial football by overdoing it,” added Mr Ongley.
It was decided to write the Railway Department asking for a special train from Paelcakarilci on the day of the Hawke’s Bay match, to arrive at Napier about 11 o'clock. The Hawke’s Bay Union was also to be written to asking them to give their support In the matter.
It was decided that twenty-one men would leave for Hawke’s Bay on Friday 29th July, the president, the secretary and Mr J. O’Connor to arrange means of transit.
It was decided to pay any Manawhenua player injured in rep. matches £1 a week up lo six weeks, provided the player was insured with his respective District Council. Followng a request -from Mr J. Casey (Horowhenua) the Union agreed to write the Taranaki Union asking if they would be agreeable to change th e venue of their match from Palmerston North to Levin.
The respective district Councils were empowered to arrange curtainraisers for rep, fixtures in their own districts .
A committee of four was set up to go into the matter of rules, with a view to altering the present district boundaries, all present agreeing that the present definition was palpably incorrect. Managers and Referees.
Mr J. Ryan was appointed the Manavrhenua selector ,to work in with the Wellington selector for a combined Wellington-Manawhenua team to play the combined Wanganui-Tara-naki team. The New Zealand Union wrote stating that Mr W. Hands had been appointed referee for the Maori v. Bush match at Pahiatua on July 20. Further notification from the New Zealand Union stated that Mr W.
Henwood of Wanganui had been appointed referee for the Maori v. Manawhenua match at Palmerston North on July 23. Mr F. Robinson (Foxton) was ap-
pointed manager of the Manawhenua
team for the matches against Wairarapa on July 20, and the Maoris on July 23.
