ACROSS THE RANGES.

ROAD TO EKETAHUNA. Taking advantage of the presence of Mr. Butcher, a member of the Eket-a-kuna Borough Council, as a visitor at the Shannon Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Cr. Hyde mentioned what he termed a vital point of interest to Eketahuua and Shannon, namely a, bridle track or road to link up the two

towns. He said he was not conversant with the nature of the country separating the two places, but from reports he learned that a bridle track could be put through at a low cost. If this can be done it would be of great benefit to both plaees. Some time ago the Shannon Chamber of Commerce had advocated a road.

Mr. Butcher said that from their side the Suggestion would be favourably viewed. They had always been willing to assist any such movement, but the big end of the stick was in Wellington and without their help not much could be done. He understood the distance from road to road to be about six miles. He thought the suggestion a good one to push forward and that the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce and Borough Council would support it, as it would be a good thing for both places. Cr. Thwaites said he had been told that the journey from road to road under present conditions took 2| to 3 hours. Also that there was a good grade for a track.

Cr. Gunning said a road had been advocated as far back as 25 years ago, so that Stock could be brought to this side to fatten on our pastures. He did not think that a bridle track would be of much benefit, hut ail the same he woiild like to see one, as it would probably lead to something better. In conclusion Mr. Butcher said he would like to receive full particulars of any proposals on the question and theSe he would pla.ee before the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce. Mr But. cher was thanked for his offer.
