THE SHANNON CHORAL SOCIETY.

(To the Editor).. Dear Sir. —May we through the medium of your paper respectfully draw the attention of your readers towards the work and aims of that very valuable organisation in our town known as the Choral Society, of which more than fifty of our citizens "are active me2nbers. Although still quite young the Society has already fully justified its existence. Its aims and objects* ‘ are mainfy the development of appreciation for good music; encouragement of solo and chorus singing; the placing before the public of some of the musical compositions of the world’s great composers; the introduction into otir town of first class singers and elocutionists, the development of the human voice and the building up of a strong body of singers who would not be ashamed to render items from any stage. The public of Shannon as enjoyed high class music, which but for the Society would not have been the case; and a growing love for the beautiful iu one of the most ancient of the arts, must naturally lead to a fuller appreciation of other beautiful things, in life. Apart from such development the . Choral Society nas assisted very materially in raising funds for charitable and deserving objects and no less a sum than £6O has been handed over as a result of such work. There are numerous expenses to meet from time to time and these can only be overcome by the support of the publie aB a whole. The Society does not ask for 'donations. It is willing to give full value for money, received at concerts, and those who have had the pleasure of attending such entertainments are more than satisfied. It is the intern, tion this year as formerly to give two concerts and' at the present time honor • ary members are being enrolled. An honorary membership ticket entitles the holder to three tickets for each of the two concerts. Hon. membership subscription is 10/6, thus he receives for that amount Iss worth of first class concerts: We hope that this season move people will become honorary members which can be arranged either through the hon. secretary or anv of the members. The first concert this year will be held on Thursday next, the 16th inst., and no expense or trouble has been spared to make it a success. One of the star performers will, no doubt, be the very clever humorist who is coming from Wellington for the occasion.

We earnestly hope, Sir, that a fuller appreciation of the Society’s work may be realised, and that more lovers of good music may join the ranks of the honorary members. Thanking you for you valuable space.—We are, etc., A. H. MORGAN, President. EDWARD T. MOODY, Hon. : Secretary.
