What is, described as an auction bridge miracle has occurred at Bedford where players were each dealt a complete suit after the cards had been shuffled and cut. . The holder of spades called: "One spade," subsequently explaining thar he expected his opponents to be strong" in the other suits, and'hoping to Ikforced up and doubled. _A woman, holding hearts, cat-led "lour hearts," and there followed calls of "Seven clubs" and "Seven diamonds," and finally, " Seven spades," the holder putting' down his hand and claiming a grand slam. lie scored 63 beloAv, 100 for a grand slam, 90 for honours, and IS for his partner's chicane. His opponents scored 36 for chicane.
This is the fourth authenticated instance in 40 years. It occurred at Calcutta-in 1888, at Brighton in ISO2. and in a Surrey whist drive in 1917. The odds against the occurrence arc almost incalculable.
