MAORILAND THEATRE.

“THE OLD SOAK.” The perfect picture contains drama and comedy mixed in perfect proportion, with a cast that sincerely portrays its parts. ; If a picture lives up to these requirements, it is sure to draw, big crowds. Is “The Old Soak”, perfect? The crowds seems to think it is and one can'find-no fault with this admirable presentation of an old toper at £is toping. . „ , This is Jean Hersholt’s first starring vehicle and' vindicates the decision of Carl Laemmle in starring a character actor. Not only had Hersholt the big role in the picture, bue he succeeds through the sheer artistry of his acting In gripping the attention of the audience and winning their hearts by his nresentation of the man’s weakness. * In this picture, from Don Marquis famous New York stage success, we have presented a dramatic but logical drama of American family life with plenty of comedy. The Old Soak's weakness might as well have been anything —but liquor is his weakness in this picture. . George Lewis and June Marlowe supply the love interest, Lewis being the son and Miss' Marlowe a chorus girl. Edward Sloman' has attempted a difficult picture and has succeeded in turning out what we predict will be one of the big successes of this season. It will be shown in Shannon on Monday night. ‘‘STING OF THE LASH.” The accomplished actress, Pauline Frederick, appears in “The Sting of the Lash,” a moving Fox drama that will be presented in Shannon on Saturday. The story is one of quickchanging action. It tells of a woman s fight for the man she loved. The man lost his manhood when he lost his gold, but “the sting of the lash” causes him to regain his former standing, and after many adventures all ends happily.
