Burns (secretary), and A. T. White (headmaster). The visiting committee (Messrs Tippler and Blackwood) .reported that a drain was required at the hack of the school near the shed; as .w£er... nos there and becomes a quagmire ln.-wet* weather. The tar-sealing is still-de-teriorating, and they saw no hope ot anything being done at present to have it remedied. In this matter the/Department had been lax in not attending to it before. There are patches m the bovs* playing area which require topdressing. The girls’ playing area, which is in a Tough state, needs to be ploughed and levelled., There are also a lot of young cork trees growing in this area that should be. ploughed iu as they are in danger, being poisonous in the case of a scratch or cut. •With the exception of b, few minor repairs to be done in the school buildings, erything was found satisfactory. They stated that on Monday, the day of their visit,'which was wet, 80 to 100 children were absent. ■ . , In regard to the Board s delay in attending to the repairs to the tar-seal-ing of the school ground, a. resolution was carried, “That-the Board be written to pointing, out that the ground is rapidly deteriorating, and ask what steps are being taken to remedy same. This week there was a big drop, many being away owing to mumps and influenza colds. If the attendance picks up during the remainder of the quarter, the average m the early part might be regained. Unfortunately, he said, a number of pupils in the upper classes had been absent on account of w,e.t weather. He said this was, no excuse and was unfair to the teachers. In the interests of the children and the school parents should see that their children attended school regularly. . ' , After a lot of routine business had been transacted, the accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
