MAORILAND THEATRE.
• ‘HAVOC”—A MIGHTY DRAMA. •When a woman chooses to be a wrecker of the lives of men, she can make a World War seem trivial. It is on ypuch premise that 1 the plot of 11 Havoc ’ |s founded —thiat -sensational play Hvhieh has been picturized by William Fox under the direction of Rowland V. Lee and which- will open -here on Friday. While the: background of the story is the western front in France, the unfoldment of the plot has' more to do with the devastation wrought by one designing woman than with that done by shellfire and bayonet. The war serves to emphasize the havoc motif, and the picture contains numerous sequences of trench fighting. The war scenes are true to life —or to death, which ever you choose. And no less true to life are the scenes showing the havoc in men’s hearts that comes from the cruelty of one woman. Violet Deering, played by Margaret Livingston, originally is engaged to Captain Roddy, Dunton (Walter McGrail). Tessie Dunton (Madge Bellamy), Roddy’s sister, is in love with Diek Chappell, played by George O’Brien.
‘‘SEVEN SINNERS.” Seven daring crooks enter a country mansion. One poses as the owner of the house, others impersonate guests, others servants, and others gain entrance by routine burglar methods. Each one is there for the purpose of looting the safe. An electrical burglar alarm goes off and the seven are imprisoned. With this situation as its basis, “Se.veniSinners, ’’ that comes to the Maoriiand Theatre on Wednesday is said to have developed some of the most hilariously amusing complications of any mystery Comedy of the season. Marie Prevost is the star, and the east ineludes Clive Brook, John Patrick, Claude Gillingivatef, Heinie. Conklin, •Mathilde Brtmdage -and Fred Kelsey. -•-
