BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the Buckley Drainage Board was held in the Council Chambers on Saturday morning. Present: Mr E. Waring Taylor (chairman) and Trustees Speirs, Eggington, 11. Easton and R. Law. * CORRESPONDENCE.

A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs relative to the proposed alteration of boundaries of the Buckley Drainage district, forwarding an extract from New Zealand Gazette containing a notice .eallimr for objection to the proposal. In reference to this matter a petition has been lodged with the Department of Internal Affairs by a number _of ratepayers in the southern end asking to be excluded from the Board’s area. After discussion the letter was received.

The engineer (Mr Farquhar) reporting on the stop bank work said that in order to expedite the work the contractors had made arrangements with Mr Stakes to construct ’the work at gap No 1. He had made good progress, all but one chain being completed' on the Bth. Owing to the very sandy na lure of the whole of the spoil on the river side of the bank he had arranged with Mr Burling to allow the contractor to take the soil from points a chain on the land side of the bank so that a layer of soil may be placed over the new bank. As Mr Stokes has the bank almost completed and would bo leaving the work inside two days, lie had instructed him to proceed with placing a layer of soil on the bank as an extra to the work, the work completed being in excess of the specification both for height and slopes. He asked the Board to confirm his action. —Received, and the Engineer’s action confirmed. Trustes Law gave notice to move at next meeting of the Board: “That the Buckley Drainage Board be divided into three sub-divisions. ’ ’ A length discussion took place on the classification and rating of the new area, correspondence being received from <he Department of Internal Affairs on this matter. Finally, it was decided to further discuss .the matter at a special meeting on Friday morning. Accounts totalling £760 4s 7d wore pa-i A-d for payment.
