SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE.
LARGEST ARCH BRIDGE IN THE WORLD. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, which will be completed in 1931, will be the largest arch bridge in the world. It will span the narrowest portion of the harbour, that between Dawe's Point on the city side and Milson's Point on the Northern side, the main arches crossing between abutment towers a distance of 1675 feet. The total length of the bridge will be 3770 ft, the width 105 ft, and at high water there will be a headway of 170 ft. for vessels passing underneath. The contract price for a length of 3770 ft of bridge is £4,217,721 and it is estimated that the approaches etc. will cost £1,275,000. Twothirds of the capital cost is to be debited to the New South Wales railway commissioners and one-third is to be paid by special levy of the rate of $d in the £1 of unimproved capital value by the City of Sydney, the Municipalities of Manly, Mosman, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Willoughby and. the v Shires of Kuring-gai, Warringah and fart of the shire of Hornsby. The structure will carry railway, tram, vehicular and pedestrian traffic and will practically eliminate the vehicular ferry services now running across the harbour.
