GOLF NOTES.
OPENING OF THE SEASON. The Shannon Golf Club will officially open its season next Saturday May 7th, a little later than usual owing to having'to form new links. The membership has been increased by a record number of new players and the keenness displayed by most of the beginners is a good indication for the future welfare of the club. Already, nearly every member has been round the course, and all speak in highest terms of.„ the great amount of valuable work put'in by the ground superintendent. The greens had to be made out of rough grass, but in spite of that fact, good putting can be accomplished, and already some .low scores have been recorded*. The country is high and dry* and from the course one gets a wonderful panorama pi the surrounding district. The length of the eighteen holes will be o/er five thousand yards, and as creeks, rivers, bogs and swanjps are. non existent greater; pleasure will bemadded to; the game. .. Opening day will be given up to play in, mixed foursomes with trophies for best cards returned. Play will be under the Canadian rule; both players strike off at each tee, but the longest ball only to be played for the completion of the hole. Afternoon tea will be-provided by tlie'lady meimbers.
