SHANNON BRIDGE.
A START BEING MADE.
The contractor (Mr Peacocke) for the now bridge over the Manawatu river, has arrived in Shannon and on Thursday the first step was taken towards carrying out the work, when a survey was made for the. laying down of a; the old bridge site to the new site, tram ; line. The line is to be laid from over which material in connection with the building of the bridge will be carried. Barth filling, to be used in .the formation of the approaches to the new oridge, will be taken from the point above the old bridge, and will also have to be carried over the tram line.
