In this issue Mr J. W. Murray notifies that he ha 3 transferred his agency of the Stats Fire Insurance to Mr, C. Cronquest, of Vogel Street.
At. a meeting of the School Committee on Wednesday evening the tender of Messrs Yortt and Deans, of Dannevirke, was accepted for the supply of two foot rata at £3 6s 6d per cord.
The Women*s Institute and their friends held a social evening on Tuesday night when a very enjoyable time was spent in musical items, dancing, games and competitions. The membership of the Institute is growing and keen interest is being displayed Ly all. At the May monthly meeting Mr C. Cronquest is giving a talk on the South Sea Islands and an effort is being made to secure a demonstration of some interesting handicraft.
The Shannon school is to lose the services from the teaching staff of Mrs .7. V. Burns, who has tendered her resignation as from May 31st net. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the School Committee the resignation was received with regret, the Committee'resolving to forward her a leter of appreciation of her services, also mentioning that the Committee appreciated her forethought in making the resignation of sufficient length to enable a successor to be appointed before the resignation takes effect.
Adherence to the present kick-into-toueh rule will be advocated by the Canterbury Rugby Union delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union. The management committee gave the delegates a lead last night by carrying unanimously a motion favouring the present rule.
Inquiry was made by Mr A. J. Petherick, at the meeting of the Power Board yesterday, as to the reason for certain lights jumping and burning low. He said several cases were report ed which seemed to be on a circuit, as they were all at Raumati Beach. The Board’s Engineer (Mr J. A. Smith) said the matter had not been mentioned to him, but men from the staff were now inspecting that locality.
