OTAKI HOSPITAL

QtTESTION OF ABOLITION REVIVED. HOSPITAL BOARD TAKES NO ACTION. " How long are the present arrangements in connection with Otaki Hos v pital going to continue?" asked Mr f. J. Ryder at the Hospital Board meeting on Thursday. It was terrible he thought, that the institution should be allowed to live from day to day. It was high time something was done. Sir J. G. Wilson: The hospita'. doesn't belong to us. Mr. Ryder: Then the people don't know the exact position. Mr. G. A. Monk: It should be explained that the matter is entirely in the hands of the Minister who had used as an excuse that the Board was quarrelling with itself and until a reI conciliation was effected, he didn't propose to do anything. The Minister should make a statement as, affairs at Otaki were far from satisfactory. Mr. J. K. Hornblow stated that the Board had met the Minister and discussed the position fairly and squarely and to finish up the matter was left in the Minister's hands. However, '•Hon. J. A. Young had not been given aii opportunity to bring down a report. He had been set upon by the people at the south end and # particularly Mr. Fiejd. sr. Hornblow was of opinion that had the - Minister been left alone by those agitators of the lower end of the district, the position would have been satisfactorily settled by now. Mr. Monk: The Minister has now had 12 months and that is sufficient timely surely? ■Mr. G. P. Catley: Can't the Board bring some pressure to bear upon the Minister. Pie moved that Hon. Young be written to and asked what his intentions were. Mr. Ryder seconded. The motion, however, was lost, seven voting against and six for.
