CONFIRMATION SERVICES.

MEMORIALS TO LATE MRS ABBOTT. j The Bishop of Wellington held cor.firmations at Ven. Bede's Church, Shannon, at 11 a.m. and at St. Ai.ian s,' I Tokomaru, in the evening of Sunday, -ApiiJ 10th. There were 38 candidate?-, at trie former service and 11 at the latter. Ven. Bede's Church was crowded, although additional seating accommodation had been provided with seats from the Parish" Hall. St. Aran's, Tokomaru. was full to overflow ng, many standing in the porch throughcut the service. _ The services were inspiring to both candidates and congregation alike. His Lordship's-address in the morning was on the psychological fact of "thought" iliiding its expression in act and word. In the evening his theme was "Soldiers of the Cross," in illustrations of which he drew contrasts between the enlistment of ancient and modern soldiers. Both addresses were poweful. instructive and helpful to both the younger and older members of the congregations; The Choir of Ven. Bede's was a great help, in the musical portion of the service. Some members of tin? choir journeyed to Tokomaru in the evening and" assisted with the service there. The Vicar and the congregation Avere very grateful for their help tiid their willingness t to assist. Also to those who so willingly placed their cars at the disposal of parish .requirements for the day. Before the commencement of the confirmation service the memorial tablet placed in Ven. Bede's Church by the parishioners to the memory of Mrs May Abbott, wife of a former vicav, was unveiled by the Bishop. Hymn 22! (A. and M.') was sung. The tablet is in brass mounted on oak, and bears the folloAving inscription: "In memory of May Abbott, died 3rd Oct-a-.ber, 1925."

St. Aidan's service onened similarly. Avhcn a pair of brass altar vases, engraved, "to the glory of God and in loving memory of May Abbott, died 3rd October, 1925," Avas dedicated ami placed on the altar by his Lordship.
