CROQUET NOTES.

'On Wednesday last, the Shannon Croquet Club held a Gala Day for the closing of the Croquet season. members of the Manakau Club were present and although the weather wan a little boisterous in the morning, it changed in the afternoon and a very enjoyable time was spent. Luncheon and afternoon tea was served on th* green by members of the Shannon Club. Mrs Baxter, the official handieapper, and also a member of the Manakau Club, was present to arrange the handicaps for next season. Thanks is extended to Mrs McLachlan for the use of her gramophone and records which livened up proceedings while it was raining. During the day short friendly gamea were played resulting a,s follows, nam's of Manakau players first in each instance: —

Mesdames Evans and Herriek lost to Mesdames McLaehland and Mason, 8— 14.

'Mesdames Bryant and Bowling lost to Mesdames Roach and Franks, 10— 14.

Mesdames Nees and Bryant lost to Aim and Clayton, 10 —14. Mesdames Latham and Dalzell defeated Mesdames Picard and Harding, 14—13. Mesdames Daizell and Latham lost to Mesdames White and Blaikie, B—l 4. • Ihe following trophies were presented by Mrs E. Butt: Mrs Aim's trophy for the most improved first year player was won by Mrs Harding. Mr A. G. Mason's trophy for th-j singles championship was won by Mrs C. C. Franks, with Mrs MeLachlan as runner up. The Shannon Croquet Club extend to the Bowling Club their thanks for the use of their pavilion for the day, i-.nd also to Mr Knowks for preparing the green. Mrs Aim, president, thanked the visitois for their attendance and then declared the green closed for the season. Mrs Dalzell, Manakau Club, returned thanks to the heme club for the most enjoyable day dpent and, the manner in which they were welcomed and looked after.
