MAORILAND THEATRE.

«'HOQAN'S ALLEY" ON WEDNESDAY. "Hogan's Alley," a Master Picture, the screen version of Gregory Rogers' thrillingly entertaining story of life on the East Side of old New York, of the conflict between young love and wealth, has been picturized by Warner Bros., and opens at the Maoriland Theatre on Wednesday. Monte Blue, the star, appears as a young Irish pugilist, the idol of the alley, and Patsy Ruth Miller as the pig-tailed terror with whom he falls iu love. Willard Louis is a comedic treat as her old Irish father, and Louise Fazenda more amusing than ever as a saucy Broadwayite. The remainder of the cast is consistently excellent, and the direction of Roy Del Ruth has intensified the thrills, drama and pathos of i.his comedy-melodrama, which makes one of the best photoplays of the season. THACKERAY'S ' 'VANITY FAIR " • Mabel Ballin r s followers were justificld in asking her husband, Huge Ballin, the painter and motion picture director and producer, to present her in a new picturization of Thackeray's "Vanity Fair." It will be screened in Shannon on Friday night. This new film version of "Vanity Fair" is one of the picture landmarks cf the year. It has been done in a sphitof reverence for Thackeray*'a conception and treatment of the characters and the story; it is more faithful to the original upon which it is based than any photoplay made from any novel that this reviewer • remembers having seen in several years. Mr. Ballin has achieved some unusual spectacular effects in the great Brussels ball on the eve of the battle of Waterloo and scenes on the battlefield itself. But the entire .story is one of human drama told in a manner that grips the interest and the heart. Miss Ballin *s Becky Sharp is a great film characterization and a big stride forward in her astonishingly successful screen career. In the notable supporting cast are such favorites as Hobart Bosworth (as the notorious Marquis of Steyiie), Eleanor Boardman, Earle Foxe, George Walsh, Harrison Ford, Willard Louis, Eobert Mack and a score of others. Our advice is see "Vanity Fair!"
