CROQUET.

BENNETT BUTTONS GO TO PALMERSTON. The Levin Croquet Club's long list of successes in defending the Bennett Buttons came to a conclusion this morning, when the Manawatu Club, represented by Mesdames Robertson and Flint won the trophy from Mesdames Kirk'and Plaster, the scores being 26 to 23. The competition had its beginning this seascn, the Buttons having been presented by Mr A. 3. Bennett, of Palmerston North, for perpetual challenge, first holders were Manakau, they were challenged by Shannon, who then lost the Buttons to Levin. The latter held them from that time up till to-day, defending them successfully against sixteen challenges. The Buttons will now have to be plaved for in Palmefston until such time as they aic won by an outside club. _____
