DUAL WATER CONNECTION.
BREACH OF SHANNON BY-LAW. The first case of its kind under the Shannon .by-laws was heard before Mr. .T. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Levin, on Thursday, when Alfred Ernest Hyde, as the owner c-f boardinghouse premises in Ballanie street, was charged with having caused .the’water pipes for such premises to be connected Avith the wAter pipes of the adjoining premises. The defendant did not appear. Mr Moody, counsel for the Shannon Borough, said that the charge avrs laid under section 10 of the Avatcr-supply by-l.w, which prohibited, this practice. The defendant had tAA r o houses connected Avith one lead from the Borough main, whereas there should be tAvo leads. George Jude, Avatenvorks foreman, of Shannon, gave evidence supporting the charge. Mr. Moody stated that this was the first case brought under the by-IaAV, and he did not press for a heavy .penalty, but rather Avished the case to serve as a Avarning to others. The Magistrate: The object, I take it, is to get the defendant to connect the other premises. Mr. Moody: Yes, youi; Worship. Defendant Avas convicted and ordered to pay 10s Court costs, £ 1 Is solicitor’s fee, and 13s witness’s expense-s.
