in —■ i POWER SUPPLY AT SHANNON DAIRY FACTORY. An explanation was given at the meeting of the Iforowhenua Power Board on Tuesday as to 1 lie large rmoiint of current consumed by the motors "at the Shannon Dairy Company s factory compared Avith similar installations elsewhere. At the February meeting of the Board,-Mr. W. E. Barber- stated that the Levin factory only used 40 k.v.a., Avbereas Shannon used 70 k.v.a.
Mr. W. Ei. Barber stated, at Tuesday’s meeting, that, in- company Avith Mr. A. -Seifert and the Board’s engineer (Mr? J. A. Smith) lie visited the Shannon factory. They also inspected the Levin installation, Avhere there was only one motor as against tAvo at Shannon. He understood that a new meter had noAV been installed at Shannon and that it showed a decided difference-as-compared with the original meter and the -former test .meter.
The Engineer stated that this Avas so. He bad put in a neAV indicator on the other phase, and as far as could be made. out it was the starting current that had been causing the load to go up. The trouble had reference to the way in which -the starter Avas connected *on the motor. The new indicator shoAved a loAver reading and brough; doAvn the company’s peak load considerably. Mr Barber:, Forty, if not fifty, pe; cent.
Mr. Smith added that it Avas no! the true peak load that Avas being slioavh previously, He had jioav put in a meter that was not affected by the starters.
Mr. Barber: Is it possible that avc have been charged for a let more current than Ave should have been? The company Avant to know Avhat attitude the. Board is going to take. Mr. Smith: I told their engineer that if there. Avas anything to be adjusted ii Avould.be seen to-.
Mr. Barber: Do you rrant a period of six or twelve months?
Mr. Smith: I would say a period of twelve months. I can make an adjust meut.
- Mr. Barber: Ycu think there is a possibility that we had too high a peak load? Mr, Smith: Yes. This is the only dairy that happens to be connected up in that way. That is Avliy,- it is outstanding.
