' EXPORTS EXCEED IMPORTS BY ! MILLION. WELLINGTON, March 5 A satisfactory feature of the track* [ statistics of the Dominion for January, as disclosed in the Monthly Abstract is that the value of the exports ex eeeded that of the imports by over £1,000,000. The detainel figures are as follow: £ Exports .. .. 5,205,140 Imports .. .. 4,011,060 Excess of exports 1,194,080 As compared with January, 1926, exports increased by £167,159 and imports decreased by £649,756. In comparison with December, 192 G, the exports during January, 1927, increased bv £l, 573. 442 and' the imports decreased by £337,036. The exports- for the 12 months ended December 31, 1926, amounted to £45,275,575, and the imports for ' the year to £49,889,563, leaving an excess of imports of £4,613,988. If the figures for January, 1927, be added to the above the adverse balance for the 13; months ia reduced to £3,429,908. The figures for the twelve months ended January 31, 1927, are as folloav: £ Imports .. .. 49,239,807 Exports .. .. 45,442.734 ■ Excess of imports 3,797,073 If the volume and value of exports for February and March are maintained on the level of January and the imports continue to decrease as they have done during the last two or three months) there is a probability of the adverse trade balance being reduced to- a vcjry small amount, if it is not actually wiped out.
