Perhaps the most important characteristic that the farmer wants from hi s cows is production, which is the eating of feeds and the making of milk. The ability which she has oi converting feeds into dairy products will depend upon her gen oral confo"mation and type very much, which is determined largely by those characteristics that indicate constitution, those that indicate capae.ily, thosthat indicate blood circuhition, thc?.f that indicate proper nervous tempera ment, and thoue that indicate ability. All of these are more or loss constant and the regularity with which th-.sr characteristics are transmitted to their offspring is the second consideration of the farmer when he selects his herd cow. This is known as reproduction. All of these can b«-. readily recognised by experienced cattle men. They are more or less constant and occur with a greater olesser degree in each and every aninwi of the specie. None of them can be safely, overlooked if one is to'expect good production from his cows.
