VEN. BEDE'S SUNDAY SCHOOL.
PICNIC AND^PRIZEGIVING, The annual picnic and prizegiving cf scholars attending Ven. Bede's Sunday School was held in the Vicarage Grounds, Stout street . on . Saturday. The weather was ideal, "the grounds proving a desirable spot for picnieing. About 100 children were present along with a fair number of parents, and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by all in games and races. Lunch and tea was partaken of by the children, both meals being done full justice to. During the afternoon there were lollie scrambles for the children and each child on leaving for home received a supply of nuts. During the afternoon the prizes awarded for the year's work were, presented by the Rev. Mr Farnell, who remarked that the work of the.school had been mo?t satisfactory. He said that the attendance could be better, and in this direction parents by helping would encourage the teachers in their work. He explained that the attendance prizes had been awarded on the ticket system, and 21 Bibles and 12 prayer books had been won by scholars during the year. To give the other prizes and for the picnic funds it had been necessary to hold a street stalk This had been under the supervision of Mesdames Merwood and Gray assisted by some of the scholars.
