SWIMMING BATHS FOR SHANNON
POLL TO BE TAKEN. The Mayor of Shannon reported to the Borough Council at this week's meeting Jiat ai: a representative meeting of citizens it had been decided that the Council bo recommended to take a poll of the ratepayers to sanction a loan of £750 for the construc*:ion of swimming baths in Shannon, also that a poll be taken to decide on one oj: the two sites, viz., the Domain and the site on the Borough section at the rear of the Borough cottage in Stout street. Cr Richardson expressed the opinion that as the municipal election was near at hand, the recommendation be left to the incoming Council to deal with. Cr. Thwaites said he did not see that the Council could raise any objection, as the request was the wish of a representative meeting of citizens. He- thoought the poll could be taken on the same day as. that on which the municipal elections were held. The Town Clerk said he did-not wish to oppose the recommendation in any l way, but he did not think it would be advisable to ,take the poll on the day suggested by Cr. Thwaites, owing to the fact that vote vs would be caused a great deal of confusion with the number of voting papers, there being the election of Mayor, Councillors, representative ;i;i the Harbour Board, and the two issues in respect to the swimming baths. Cr Spencer then moved that a po'll for a loan of £750 to erect swimming baths.in Shannon be placed before the ratepayers. r lhe motion was carried, the date for taking the poll to be left to the Town Clerk to arrange.
