HOROWHENUA DISTRICT COUNCIL j REPORT ON 1926 SEASON. I The annual report of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council, to be presented I at the annual 'meeting to »je held in Levin on March 15th, is t'.s follows: — "Your committee has met on 24 occasions during the season and all members have attended in excellent manner. The season was a long one extending from 24th April to 2nd October. It would appear that an earlier start is advisable. Interest in all competitions was well maintained and the winners with their trophies are as follows: — Senior Championship. —Wanderers, Isherwood Shield. Nash Championship.—Weraroa, Cup. Canoe, and Banner. Licensed Victuallers' Cup.—Weraroa, Cup. 2nd Junior Championship.—Shannon, Cup. Third Grade Championship.—'Weraroa and Southern United (equal), Cup. Fourth Grade Championship.—Levin District High School, Proctor Cup. Primary Schools. —Foxton, Austin Banner. j Your Committee has endeavoured to I foster football in the lower grades by providing representative games. In this connection there was a North v. South third-grade trial; a fourth-grade trial against Manawatu. In the schools a forward move has been made. Undei the capable guidance of Mr. McDonald a primary school competition was inaugurated and was won by Foxton. To bring the season to a close representatives from the northern schools played the southern schools. Your Committee made a grant to the Primary Schools Union and also paid the travelling expenses of the fourth-grade representatives to Palmerstoir North, and the assembly expenses of the primary school boys in Levin. Your Committee feels these efforts, though small, will meet with your entire approval. Finance. The season began with a debt of about £IOO from 1925 and your Committee set about the task of liquidating same and placing Horowhenua on i sound financial basis. As leader in the task we had a capable and painstaking Finance Committee, which has not spared itself in achieving the desired result. It received the hearty co-opera-tion of every member of the Management Committee, and as a-result of their efforts it is able to place the Balance-sheet before you showing a credit balance of close on £IOO in the.. District Council Account and £SO. m the Insurance Account. ' On the. year's, working, therefore we show a profit of nearly £250. As the Balance-sheet shows the Insurance Account has once again been separated from the General Account, and your Committee trusts that this money which is subscribed by players as self help in time of injury be never allowed again to be merged into the General Account. This money is a sacred trust and is earmarked for one purpose and should be used for that alone. Insurance. We wish to bring under the notice oi clubs the advisability of all players subscribing to the Insurance Fund. Failure to insure with the Council debars ah injured player from compensation not only in club games, but also in representative games both in the Horowhenua Representatives and in the Ma-nawatu-Horowhenua . Representative team. We wish to draw attention to the position of players in the Manawhenua team. The Majjawatu-Horo-whenua Rugby "Union has no Insurance Fund ,md during 192(5 referred the claim of one player who was not insured with his Council back to the player for payment. The premium (2/6) should not debar anyone from joining the fund. Representative Games; The senior representatives have Deen most successful.. The record is wellknown. Notable among their achievements was the winning of the Bebbington Shield. A fine trophy known a* Dev.ar's Imperial Tropdy has noen donated for annual competition between the Maoris and the Pakehfis. After a very interesting game !.hc Pakehas proved their right to be the first holders of the trophy. One juuior representative game—against Manawatu —was played and resulted in a drawn game. In the Rowlands Cup match the Weraroa junior team was defeated by the narrowest of margins by Old Boys. Classification. Your Committee has given this matter very serious consideration and the following are its decisions:—The jun jor Chissilicutioi) Committee (Messrs F. Robinson, S. Hooper, W Dnlzell) will submit a list of 1920 junior players, who will he required to play senior in 1927. Willi regard lo the' third-grade the following arrangement has been made: The delegates to the Annual General Meeting are asked to bring the names of the members of their 1926 thirdgrade teams whom they wish to be classified as juniors. Club secretaries are asked particularly to note this. x Representative Games, 1927. . Your Committee recommends for favourable' consideration the following ' allocation of representative games for 1927, provided necessary arrangements can be made at the centres named: — Ist Bebbington Shield Mat eh.—-Fox-ton.
