Market quotations from Wick, the furthest north town on the mainland of Great Britain, show that in mid-Deo-emher both New Zealand and Danish butter were on sale at 2s per lb. This shows that the Dominion's dairy produets travel far; but as the butter was selling at the same retail price as the Danish article at a time when the wholesale price for New Zealand finest grade was 172 s per cwt (Is 6Jd perlb), the question naturally arises, who pockets the difference? If an allowance of a week is made between the purchase of the butter in London and its sale in the north of Scotland, there should be a difference of at least 12s a hundredweight, as on December oth Danish butter was quoted at 188 s, while New Zealand ranged from 164 s for stored to 176.-, for finest.
