SHANNON CHORAL SOCIETY.
GOOD PROSPECTS FOR SEASON.
An enthusiastic committee meeting of the Shannon Choral Society was held at Mr Moody's office last night, when, in the unavoidable absence of the President, Mr Morgan* Mr Howard Andrew presided.
The Secretary, Mr Moody, said he was glad to be able to report that the season would start clear of debt and the Society was proud that it could pay its way. After a full discussion it was decided to open the season with the first practice on Thursday, March 24th, the first concert to be a miscellaneous one and to be followed by a set piece. HONORARY MEMBERS.
The Secretary said he would draft a circular to the residents of the town who were interested in the Society, asking them to become subscribers, the fee to be 10/6 for the season and entitling the holder to two front seat tickets for each concert. This will be a sure income for the Society, which will then be able to get professional artists to assist at the concerts. The proposal should appeal to the public of Shannon and doubtless it will receive wide support. Miss Eva Quarrie was appointed Librarian in place of Miss Clifford-Jones, who has joined the nursing staff in Wellington hospital. The Society, while regretting the loss of her services is proud to know that three of its members have recently entered the nursing profession, the others being Misses .Nancy Cole and Spencer.
Various minor matters were dealt with.
The following programme committee was appointed: Mrs Clifford-Jones, Mr Howard Andrew and the Secretary. Emergency committee,- the above committee and the President.
The holding of a social was left in abeyance for the time being. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mr Moody for the use of his office.
