OPENING OF NEW DAIRY FACTORY

BY MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE. MODERN MANUFACTURING METHODS. AUCTCLAND, Fob. 9. A modern ,butter factory costing £25,000 and having an output capacity of 2500 tons annually, was built by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Coy. at Morrinsville, and was officially opened to-day by the Hon O. J. Hawken, Minister of AgriculUiro. The factory is fitted with three large churns,- five 2000-gallon glasslined tanks, and modern machinery for the hygienic cleansing of milk cans. The factory deals with a supply of cream from the Morrinsville and Hauraki Plains area. Mr Hawken said the dairy companies had improved their production methods to a remarkable extent in recent years, and by applying the same method to marketing, much better returns should be received. He advised farmers to 4 mobilise their buying powers in the same way as they mobilised their production methods. Farming implements, for instance, could be standardised and bought through a central distributing agency, j The difference between manufacturing and retail costs of many articles farmers needed was far in excess of the original cost and was unreasonable. The Minister concluded by urging farmers to support the co-opera-tive system and so help the general well-being of the community.
