MANGAHAO NOTES.

The beautifully situated tennis court —probably the prettiest in New Zealand —is almost completed and will be fit for play very shortly. The opening day has not been fixed, but no doubt there will be a very large representation of the district present. There are some very good players up here and doubtless there will be some inter-club matches arranged. The industrial force is very busy in hurrying on the excavations at the new dam and more men will be put on shortly. More huts or tents will have to be erected. They are making the most of the fine weather. . Two gentlemen visitors to the camp, who have b"een in many camps in New Zealand, say that Mangahao Hydro is the best conducted camp they have ever been in. There is every convenience—hot and eold water being laid on to nearly all parts, including wash tubs. They are the envy of many boroughs and municipalities. The men on the whole are a very fine l,ot and contented and so are the children, who are doing very well at school. Mr. Len Barnes and a party of singers from Wellington are giving a concert on Saturday night and the residents are in for a very fine treat, as Mr 'Barnes is one of New Zealand's leading baritones He and his party are giving their services in some return for the very fine way he was treated when at Mangahao not long ago. Mr and Mrs Whiteford, who have been spending* a holiday in different parts of ijh;e Dominion, returned on Friday last. The river has been well patronised for swimming during the heat. The school children have made good use of it under supervision of their master. They are being taught to swim. The pictures are well patronised and no wonder for they are very good films. The physical culture and boxing classes have good memberships and the boys are shaping well.
