Levin journeyed to Paraparaumu on Saturday, and after a keen game, victory rested with the Southern men by a margin of 25 runs. Phillips and Meodie gave Levin a fair start,, the first wicket falling with the score at 26, but then disaster set in, and four wickets fell in quick time. Matters did not look, at all promising, until Varnham and Ilopa became associated in a valuable partnership enabling their side to reach a three-figure total before the innings closed. Varnham, who has been gradually getting into form, batted with plenty of enter- 1 prise, while Hopa showed excellent judgment in selecting his scoring shots. Fitton and Thomson opened Paraparaumu’s innings in an auspicious manner, and both batted with plenty of confidence, particularly Thomson, who severely punished anything of a loose nature. His 65 was contributed in a businesslike manner. . The remaining batsmen, although not doing anything sensational, managed to pass Levin’s score before being disposed of. Details: LEVIN.
