The accommodation provided by the Government at Waitomo Caves has been the subject of adverse comment by visitors this season. In addition to the hostel there is an annexe to accommodate male visitors when the former is crowded, and a cottage reserved for the excess number of ladies. The annexe is built on the principle of the old military huts at Trcntham camp, except that it is divided into cubicles, each containing two 'beds. Though it has the disadvantage in that a guest therein does not know who his roommate may be, it is a fairly comfortable place and freely ventilated. The main objection, however, a "Standard" reported was informed by a recent visitor to the hostel, is the cost for accommodation which amounts to 18s per day and is really not the equal of a cheap city boarding house. The manager, it was stated,.did his best for guests, but the need for'a large \ip-to-date hostel was paramount and the Government should see that one was built at once.
