GENEROUS OFFER.
■ GOVERNMENT’S ACTION APPRECIATED. A generous action on the part of the Government, was reported to tlie Mnna-watu-Oroua River Board yesterday by the engineer, Mr F. C. Hay, who also J added that it was a recognition on'the part ef the Government of the danger to which the district is at present exposed by reason of flooding from the Ylanawatu. During the flood of July, 1926, stopbanks and flood gates hi the Buckley Drainage district (Shannon) were destroyed and repairs will cost something in the nature of £I6OO. ' The Buckley drainage district is at present being extended and the new Board has not been elected. Consequently there are no funds to carry out repairs necessary. These facts were presented to the Government, which has decided, subject ti approval of plans, to advance the Buek'ley Drainage Board the whole amount of £I6OO and given them two years in which to pay off its share of £BOO, the balance being recognised as a £ for £ subsidy.
