LEVIN RACING CLUB.

RESULT OF SUMMER MEETING. The profits realised by the Levin Racing Club as a result of its summer meeting, held on November 20, amount to £Bl4 7s 3d. These figures take into account an expected rebate of 3} per cent, on the- totalis'ator turnover —a matter which has been referred to the Internal Affairs Department for favourable consideration. The law which governs racing provides that a club, in order to qualify for such a rebate, must have spent not less than £250 for improvements in the preceding year. The Levin Club last year spent £552 6s 8d on, improvements, which included a bank ,of 10 loose-boxes, alterations to the grandstand, and the fences, and general work. A PROGRESSIVE POLICY. BETTERMENT OF TflE COURSE. - MORE LOOSE-BOXES. Further important improvements, relating to the re-designing of the course, and the erection of more loose-boxes, were made at a, meeting of the Levin Racing Club Committee last evening. Those present were Messrs T. Sevan (chairman), W. Bull, J. Ryder, F. Davies, M Winiata, C. Blenkhorn, F. Nicholson, W. G. Vickers, J. W. Procter, R. V.> Br own, and P. H. Harper. It was decided to act on the suggestion of the stipendiary stewards and immediately proceed with the work of straightening the mile-and-a-quarter start,' thus eliminating the bad bend and generally improving the course.. A - false rail will be put in, and a straight run of half a mile thus provided. The judge's box will be shifted back in accordance with the present general practice of ra"ing clubs, Sn order to give increased visibility. In this case the box. will be shifted back approximately .25 yards, and will also be moved laterally 20 feet in order to give access by a flight of steps from the box to the stipendiaries' room in the stewards' stand. This re-arrangement will ' necessitate the shifting of the winning post 20ft from its present place, and a corresponding alteration in "the positions of the furlong posts around the course.

As an outcome of the growth of motor traffic, and the accompanying decrease of private accommodation- for horses, the committee decided to provide another big batch of loose boxes, and the work will be put in hand with-out-delay. The new works will be carried out'by day labour. •

Accounts amounting to £334 3s 8d were passed for payment. ■ t

The chairman thanked the stewards and the secretary (Mr E. R. Bryant) fqr the manner in which they had assisted to,make the last meeting a success. He mentioned that many expressions of praise had been heard in regard to the conduct of the meeting, and he was pleased with the way iv. which the committee and the stewards had'worked together.
