A fight between a doctor and a patient who was suffering from a severe affection of the throat .took place on a deserted stretch of road between G'halais and Barbezieux in the Cha- » lente Department. Dr. Larrieu, of Calais, was driving J the patient ,a. middle-aged man, to J hospital at Barbezieux, for an opera- j tion on his throat. Half-way there he found that the man was choking, owm ing to the rapid progress of the disease. Stopping his motor-oar and propping the man up on the bank, the doctor decided to attempt an immediate operation. He was about to perform the operation , of tracheotomy when the man -' grappled with him. They rolled in the I road, and it was only after a desperate ! fight that the doctor, bleedingr and j with his clothes in tatters, was able to -overcome the resistance of his patient and make the necessary in- ,, cision in the throat to enable him to Dass. down it a tube and thus restore - normal breathing. He then carried the man back to the car and completed the journey to Barbezieux. There is every hope of the patient's recovery.
